The Freethinker

In the world in which we live there are many sad truths, but few sadden me more than this: much of humanity is willing to accept mainstream beliefs without any thought or question. Conventional wisdom is rarely or never scrutinized, however unwise it may be, and questionable dogmas influence everything from what we see on the local news to how our leaders make highly influential decisions. Those who chose to disagree with these mainstream beliefs are often frowned upon by others or even harassed. However, it was not through conventionality that the greatest people throughout history became great, nor do I believe that real knowledge and truth can ever be gained if we are never willing to ask questions. This is the idea behind the freethinker.
